KUCHING: In light of the confirmed Covid-19 cases in the state, the Sarawak government has come out with several control measures to prevent further escalation of the outbreak.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said effective March 18, all visitors foreign and domestic coming into the state and returning Sarawakians, would be issued with a 14-day stay home notice (SHN).
He said this included Sarawak residents who are long- term and short-term pass holders.
“The relevant agencies will monitor the SHN holders through random visits, phone calls and modern technology applications,” he said in a press conference on Covid-19 at his office, Wisma Bapa Malaysia, here yesterday.
He said exemptions would only be given by the State Health Department to those required to travel under special circumstances such as the need to attend official and business duties.
“All Sarawak government
official functions, involving more than 50 persons, are to be cancelled or
postponed or until further notice,” he said.
Abang Johari also advised that any public function involving more than 50
persons is strongly advised to be postponed or cancelled until further
notice.
“In the last three days, Sarawak has recorded 34 cases of Covid-19, out of that 29 are ‘imported’ cases. As such the state government has come out with these following measures,” he said.
Also present at the press conference were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also the State Disaster Management Committee chairman.
On the 34 cases, Uggah said
16 of them were now at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), while seven (Sibu
Hospital), 10 (Miri Hospital) and one at Bintulu Hospital.
“While 186 of them are still awaiting lab result,” Uggah said.
