Sarawak haze eases, all areas below very unhealthy level

KUCHING: Air quality continued to improve across Sarawak towards the evening today (Sept 13), with all monitoring stations falling out of the very unhealthy category.

Lubok Antu recorded the highest Air Pollutant Index (API) reading at 198, moving back into the unhealthy range after previously recording very unhealthy levels.

It was followed by Betong MCAQM at 165, Sri Aman (163), Serian (173), Kuching (155), Samarahan (153), Kanowit (143), Tebedu (135) and Lundu (112), all within the unhealthy category.

The remaining stations recorded moderate air quality, with Sibu at 95, Sarikei (88), Bintulu (78), Mukah (75), Kapit (71), Samalaju (68), Miri (66), Lawas (60), ILP Miri (55) and Limbang (53).

Bario remained the only location with good air quality, improving further to an API reading of 38.

The latest figures showed a continued easing in air quality across much of the State towards 5pm, with no significant increases recorded at the monitoring stations.

The readings were based on data from the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) and the Department of Environment’s (DOE) Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS).
