KUCHING: The Rotary Club of Urban Kuching and The Malaysian Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have joined forces to donate vital medical equipment worth over RM1.8 million to three hospitals in Sarawak.

The donation drive began on May 26 with a handover ceremony at Bau Hospital, officiated by Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep.

The equipment donated there was valued at RM511,000.

The initiative continues today with a second ceremony at Lundu Hospital, where equipment worth RM395,000 will be handed over.

Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang is scheduled to officiate.

The final handover will take place on May 29 at Sentosa Hospital in Kuching.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian will officiate at the event, which will see equipment worth RM946,000 donated to the facility.

According to a joint press release, the donated medical equipment comprises essential tools and machinery to improve diagnosis, treatment, and overall patient care in the three hospitals.

“This generous contribution aims to strengthen the healthcare infrastructure in Sarawak and support the dedicated professionals working tirelessly to improve the lives of patients,” the statement said.

Rotary Club of Urban Kuching president Nigel Geikie expressed gratitude for the collaboration, calling it a meaningful initiative for the community.

“This donation is not just about equipment, it’s about making a lasting difference in the lives of people by supporting those who serve on the frontlines every day,” he said.

Yevette Hataway, representing the Malaysian Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, said church members voluntarily contribute funds to support humanitarian work worldwide.

“It is our privilege to fund projects that have a tangible impact. We strive to love and help others by following the example of Jesus Christ,” she said.

The initiative reflects the power of collaborative, community-driven efforts in addressing critical healthcare needs and uplifting local communities across Sarawak.
