KUCHING: Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (TEGAS) made history after being selected as the host of the Malaysian finals of the Startup World Cup 2025 at the TEGAS Digital Village today.
This marked the first time Sarawak hosted the prestigious event, which saw 10 finalists competing for a place in the global finals.
Deputy Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Minister, Datuk Len Talif Salleh, said the competition served as an important platform to connect local entrepreneurs with global opportunities while exposing them to vast investment potential.
“To the 10 finalists here today, your presence alone is a testament to your spirit and innovative drive. Regardless of the outcome, take pride in how far you’ve come.
“You’ve all proven that your ideas are competitive and ready to shine on a bigger stage. Make the most of this opportunity and continue refining your vision,” he said.
He said this in a speech delivered by TEGAS Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Udin Bujang, during the event.
Len, who is TEGAS Chairman, said the Sarawak Government remains committed to strengthening an inclusive digital economy that empowers youth, nurtures innovation, and drives sustainable growth.
He added that hosting the event also reflects how Sarawak and Sabah are not left behind in fostering a more vibrant entrepreneurial spirit for the future.
He also reaffirmed that Sarawak is currently on an ambitious development trajectory under the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).
Commenting further, he expressed appreciation to the organiser, Growth Charger, for selecting Malaysia as the location for the East Zone finals.
“We are proud to collaborate with strategic partners in delivering this prestigious global platform for East Malaysia, including the main sponsor and all supporting partners from the startup and venture capital ecosystem.
“Together, we are laying a strong foundation for innovation across the region,” he stressed.
