KUCHING: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has described Sarawak as the “soul and heartbeat of Malaysia”, citing its unique unity in diversity as a living example of national harmony.

In a Facebook post in conjunction with the Sarawak Day celebration today, he praised Sarawakians for living peacefully and respectfully across ethnic and geographic lines, be it in rural areas, the interior or cities.

“Unity in Sarawak is not just rhetoric but a way of life,” he said.

He stated that the state continues to inspire the spirit of togetherness and mutual respect within a multicultural society.

Anwar noted that Sarawak’s people, values, and rich cultural heritage are integral to the nation’s identity, describing the state as a symbol of coexistence rooted in history and trust.

“I also extended my well wishes to all Sarawakians across the state, from Limbang to Lundu, Bintulu to Betong, in celebrating Sarawak Day, which commemorates the state’s attainment of self-government in 1963,” he said.

Touching on federal-state relations, Anwar reaffirmed his administration’s firm commitment to honouring and implementing the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) responsibly and with integrity.

“I am confident in Sarawak’s path forward, particularly in championing a future that is just, inclusive, and sustainable,” he said.

Anwar also highlighted Sarawak’s leading role in renewable energy, the green economy, and the empowerment of education and technology sectors.

He further paid tribute to the unity and resilience of Sarawak’s multiracial society, including the Dayak, Bidayuh, Iban, Orang Ulu, Malay, and Chinese communities, calling them the enduring foundation of the state’s strength.
