KUCHING: Sarawak’s junior tennis squad is undergoing an overseas training programme in Wuhan, China, as part of preparations for the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2026.
The squad is training at the QW Golden Slam Tennis Court and sports training school, where the players are receiving high-performance coaching while gaining valuable international exposure.
Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Henry Harry Jinep visited the squad during the training camp, accompanied by Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association president Datuk Patrick Liew.
During the visit, they received a briefing on the operations of the tennis centre, observed training sessions and met with the players as preparations for SUKMA continue.
Henry described the overseas training camp as an important component of Sarawak’s preparations for SUKMA 2026, providing young players with valuable international exposure and high-performance coaching.
“This opportunity reflects Sarawak’s continued commitment to developing young sporting talent through international exposure and high-performance training,” he said in a recent social media post.
He also encouraged the players to compete with confidence and pride when representing Sarawak at SUKMA.
The training camp forms part of the state’s preparations for the biennial Games, with the exposure expected to provide the young players with valuable experience against different training methods and competitive environments.
