KUCHING: A Sarawakian kidney patient undergoing dialysis treatment in Kuala Lumpur is urged to contact the Ministry of Women, Early Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development for potential financial assistance.

Its Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said her ministry was made aware of the patient’s plight through a newspaper report after the individual appealed for public help.

She said the patient requires financial support for five months to cover treatment costs at a private dialysis center.

“This is the first time we have come across such a case.

“However, we will first look into how this matter can be addressed.

“The existing procedure states that assistance is provided to those residing in Sarawak and receiving treatment at dialysis centers within the state,” she said.

She said this when met by reporters after attending the Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house, hosted by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here today (Mar 31).

Fatimah added financial aid for kidney patients provided by the Sarawak government is subject to certain procedures, including verification by government doctors and official referral to recognized dialysis centers.

“Patients must first seek treatment at government hospitals or health clinics before being considered for assistance.

“To be eligible for aid, patients must be referred by a government doctor and certified as unable to undergo dialysis at government hospitals or health clinics due to a lack of available spots,” she said.
