KUCHING: The Sarawak Zone KPDN 2025 Carnival Tour Programme and Buy Malaysian Products Campaign recorded an estimated turnout of 40,000 over three days which reflects Sarawak’s strong public response to national efforts in empowering consumers and boosting the local economy.

The third edition of the carnivel, held from September 5 to 7, marked the third stop of the national carnival series after Johor and Sabah.

Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living’s (KPDN’s) Secretary-General, Datuk Seri Mohd Sayuthi Bakar, said that the latest edition of the carnival continues to reinforce KPDN’s commitment to the MADANI Economic Framework, with a clear goal to accelerate the country’s economic growth and enhance the overall well-being of the people.

“The implementation of a ‘Whole of Nation’ approach, as outlined in the framework, highlights the importance of inclusive participation across government agencies, the private sector, and the general public in tackling the rising cost of living together.

“Another key focus of this programme is actively listening to public views and suggestions.

“The carnival also serves as a platform for the ministry to go to the ground and bring its services closer to the people through its four core responsibilities,” he said when officiating the carnival closing ceremony here at Kuching Waterfront today.

He added that KPDN’s four key responsibilities are enforcing consumer rights, empowering local entrepreneurs to compete fairly in markets, educating consumers to make informed choices and report unethical traders, and addressing the cost of living through various support programmes.

In addition, aligned with Malaysia Day celebrations on September 16, he said the carnival promotes patriotism through the ‘Buy Malaysian Goods Campaign’, with the slogan ‘Jom Beli Lokal’ serving as the event’s central theme.

“Support for local products not only helps expand the market reach of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), but also contributes to strengthening the national entrepreneurial ecosystem and building a strong narrative on the excellence of Malaysian-made products.

“For this edition of the carnival, a total of 52 local entrepreneurs have participated.

“As of August 2025, a total of 8,645 Stock Keeping Units (SKUs) have been awarded the Malaysian Product logo, while 24,443 SKUs have received the Made in Malaysia logo,” he said.

He also said that one of the highlights of this carnival is the symbolic presentation of the Trademark Fee Reduction Package (JenamaLokal|300) under the campaign ‘Protect Local Brands, Break into Global Markets’.

“Through this initiative by the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO), entrepreneurs are offered a discount of RM300 per application, reducing the cost to RM650 compared to the original fee of RM950, for trademark protection valid for 10 years under intellectual property law.

“This package is expected to assist MSMEs in strengthening their branding, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of local products in international markets,” he said.
