Sarawak launches advisory council to drive aerospace industry growth

THE newly established Sarawak Aerospace Advisory Council will spearhead aerospace industry development by enhancing education, workforce training, and forging global partnerships to drive future investment and accelerate industry growth.

Deputy Premier and Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said this as the global aerospace industry is projected to broaden in 2025, accelerated by technological advancements, sustainability initiatives, and increasing air demand.

“As industry continues to evolve, Sarawak is actively developing our aerospace capabilities, focusing on aviation, space technology and satellite launch potential.

“With a strong emphasis on talent development, Sarawak has launched the Aerospace Academy at CENTEXS Lundu and i-CATS University College’s Faculty of Aerospace Engineering, equipping future professionals with hands-on expertise and globally recognised qualifications,” he said.

He said this in his winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today.

Additionally, Awang Tengah then stated that Sarawak is exploring the development of an Aerospace Industrial Park for high-value aerospace manufacturing, aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul, and sustainable aviation fuel research.

“We are partnering with Airbus to expand the aerospace industry, create high-value job opportunities and attract foreign investment.

“Sarawak is creating a dynamic and resilient ecosystem as a competitive aerospace hub in ASEAN,” he said.

In the meantime, Awang Tengah stated that this year, the Ministry has allocated a budget of RM40 million fo the development of 14 industrial estates, stating that the industrial estates are designed to cater for diverse sectors, including manufacturing, technology and sustainable energy, aligning with its industrial development agenda.

“In addition, my Ministry is developing 18 Anjung Usahawan with a total allocation of RM11.5 million, providing essential infrastructure, particularly in the rural and remote areas of Sarawak.

“As of quarter of this year, my Ministry has has completed six industrial parks and four Anjung Usahawan, with five industrial parks and two Anjung Usahawan under construction.

“Additionally, nine industrial parks and 17 Anjung Usahawan are in various pre-implementation stages,” he said.

Awang Tengah then expressed his appreciation to the Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development for its Pembangunan Premis-Tamu Desa programme, which suppports local hawkers and petty traders to upgrade business premises, especially in rural areas across Sarawak.

“Out of 39 projects, 26 are completed, with the remaining 13 are scheduled for completion by this June.

“With RM8 million approved funding, this initiative improves business infrastructure and economic opportunities for local traders.,” he added.
