KUCHING: Sarawak has taken another bold step in advancing research-driven impact within the global business events sector with the official launch of Volume 3 Issue 2 of the ‘International Journal of Business Events and Legacies’ (IJBEL) at IMEX Frankfurt 2025.

Launched by Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak), the IJBEL is the only academic journal focused on how business events create lasting impact, supporting economic growth, sustainability, and long-term development.

The latest issue features a fresh array of peer-reviewed studies, case analyses, and innovative perspectives, reinforcing the pivotal role of business events in shaping industries, communities, and policymaking.

“For Sarawak, data-driven research strengthens our ability to align business events with economic priorities, such as sustainable development, investment attraction and talent growth,” said Sarawak’s Creative Industry and Performing Arts Deputy Minister, Datuk Snowdan Lawan, who was present at the launch.

“With a structured, data-driven approach, Sarawak’s business events can be catalysts for long-term legacy impact, ensuring that every meeting, incentive, conference, and exhibition contributes meaningfully to our Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030,” he said.

Hosted at IMEX, the world’s leading trade show for the business events industry, the launch of IJBEL Volume 3 Issue 2 highlights Sarawak’s growing leadership in promoting legacy impact, international collaboration, and knowledge exchange through research-backed strategies.

“IJBEL stands as a pioneering platform dedicated to advancing research, knowledge and thought leadership in the global business events industry,” said Chief Executive Officer of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) cum Chairman of the IJBEL Advisory Board, Dr Senthil Gopinath.

“As the journal matures, it is now ready to stand independently as a leading platform for business events research and legacy impact,” he said.

He encouraged all business events associations, industry leaders, and convention bureaus to support IJBEL in advancing knowledge, shaping policy, and driving meaningful change across the global business events landscape.

Now in its third year, IJBEL continues to provide researchers and practitioners with a valuable multidisciplinary perspective through real-world case studies and practical insights, while also serving as a strategic platform for destination showcasing and knowledge diplomacy.

IJBEL is a collaboration between BESarawak, ICCA as its exclusive international association partner, Curtin University Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi MARA, and the Sarawak Research Society.
