NEW YORK CITY: A delegation from the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN Sarawak), led by Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, attended a comprehensive briefing on the United States legislative system held at the New York Marriott Marquis Hotel.
The session, jointly organised by the Leadership Institute of Sarawak Civil Service (LISCS) and DUN Sarawak, was part of the delegation’s Comparative Legislative Study Tour to the United States, aimed at fostering cross-national learning and understanding of governance systems.
During the briefing, senior vice-president of Park Strategies, LLC (New York), Sean King provided an in-depth overview of the US legislative framework, elaborating on the separation of powers, the bicameral structure of Congress, and the functions of party leadership and committees in the lawmaking process.
The interactive session also featured a Q&A segment, where delegates engaged in discussions comparing legislative practices between Malaysia and the United States.
The event concluded with a group photo and networking lunch, providing an opportunity for further dialogue and exchange of ideas.
The study tour reflects Sarawak’s continued commitment to strengthening institutional knowledge, legislative capacity, and governance excellence through international collaboration and exposure.
