PUTRAJAYA: Sarawak emerged as a standout contender at the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) Malaysia Innovation Day 2025, securing top honours in two national categories during the three-day event at Wisma Tani, Putrajaya.

The annual event, organised by DVS Malaysia, aims to celebrate forward-thinking solutions in veterinary and livestock development.

The closing ceremony was officiated by the department’s Deputy Secretary-General (Development), Datuk Badrul Hisham Mohd, and was also attended by its Director-General, Dr Akma Ngah Hamid.

This year’s competition featured five categories: Digitalisation, Technology, Services, Industry (Product), and Industry (Livestock Production).

The DVETS team from the Sarawak Department of Veterinary Services was crowned champion of the Digitalisation Innovation Award for their Rabies App project, an innovative platform that promotes digital disease management and public awareness regarding rabies.

The team was led by Rovits Regen and assistant leader, Nurul Diana Hussaini, alongside talented team members, Josprin Edwin, Magdalene Marin, Jerina Peter Pee, and Linda Gregory.

The project was also supported by facilitators, Judas Ligon and Nur Aqma Syairah Syafiqah.

Meanwhile, Alam Bumi Jaya, based at the Karabungan Livestock Station in Miri, took home the champion title in the Industry (Livestock Production) Innovation Award for its Deep Litter Bedding project.

The sustainable approach utilises oil palm empty fruit bunches (EFB) mixed with effective microorganisms (EM) to improve livestock hygiene, reduce odours, and enhance overall animal welfare.

The company was represented by seasoned livestock innovators, Loh Jack Shing and Michael Chan Ah Choi, whose efforts impressed the judges with their practical and sustainable contribution to the livestock industry.

The event, held from July 22 to 24, served not only as a platform to recognise breakthrough ideas but also as a catalyst for future innovation in Malaysia’s veterinary and livestock sectors.
