KUCHING: Sarawak is set to take centre stage at the World Islamic Tourism Expo (WITEX) 2025, positioning itself as a premier destination for Muslim travellers seeking both spiritual comfort and authentic cultural experiences.
The Sarawak Umrah and Hajj Association (SUHA), in collaboration with the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB), will lead the state’s efforts to highlight its unique blend of halal-friendly services, natural attractions, and living cultural heritage at the international tourism event, which takes place from August 22 to 24 at the Sunway Resort Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.
While SUHA is widely recognised for its reputable umrah and hajj services, it has increasingly taken on a proactive role in promoting Islamic tourism, both within Malaysia and abroad.
At WITEX 2025, SUHA will showcase specially curated travel packages by Muslim-owned Sarawak-based travel agencies, designed to go beyond just halal food and prayer spaces.

These packages prioritise peace of mind, cultural authenticity, and genuine hospitality.
“WITEX is our chance to show the world that Sarawak is a place to feel at home. We’re not just selling travel packages. We’re offering a journey that respects your faith and connects you with something real,” said SUHA Chairman, Ruzaiman Ghazalee.
Ruzaiman added that Sarawak is fully equipped to provide meaningful travel experiences for Muslim visitors.
From the iconic Kuching Waterfront lined with halal eateries to the bustling Pasar Serikin, the jungle trails of Bako National Park, and the tranquil beaches of Sematan, Sarawak offers a variety of attractions ideal for families, groups or solo travellers.
Ruzaiman emphasised that the living, multi-ethnic culture is what sets Sarawak apart, with the traditional music, dance and crafts from the Iban, Malay, Bidayuh and Melanau communities’ everyday lives.
Meanwhile, WITEX 2025 Chairman, Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Khalid Harun, who is also the president of the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATA), praised Sarawak’s participation as a bold move in promoting Borneo as an emerging hub for Islamic tourism.
With global interest growing in spiritually conscious travel, Sarawak’s participation in WITEX 2025 signals its readiness to welcome the world as valued guests on a meaningful journey.
