KUCHING: Sarawak Malay Arts Vibrations Concert will be held tomorrow at the Sarawak Riverbank at 8 pm.
The concert is organised by the Sarawak Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts together with the Kuching City Artistic Children’s Organisation (PASBK) which hope to introduce the younger generation to the culture and arts of Sarawak Malay through traditional song compositions with a modern concept.
In its statement yesterday (June 6), PASBK said the concert also aimed to showcase six traditional Sarawak Malay rhythmic arts, namely, Gendang Nopeng, Bangsawan, Tarian Zapin Bandarsah, Gurindam and Syair, Silat Pulut Sarawak and Gambus Sarawak.
Local singers Bob Yusuf, Datuk Sarbanun Marican, Safar Ghaffar, Jamiah Lanbed, Firdaus Materang, Norafizah Busman, Shatila Kamil, Abdul Gapor Ros, Hazwani Alias, Dahlia Alias, and Nurhijrah Yahya will also perform traditional and modern rhythmic songs at the concert.
“This concert will be divided into two segments: traditional and contemporary. In the contemporary segment, all famous songs from the 1950s to the present will also be performed by the PASBK Orchestra and PASBK Combo,” said PASBK.
This free concert will be attended by Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg who is the patron of PASBK, and Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Haji Bujang, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Sarawak,Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, other distinguished guests, department and agency heads, political secretaries, community leaders and the public.
