BINTULU: Sarawak’s state-level Maal Hijrah 1447H/2025 celebration was held today at Bintulu Civic Centre, centred on the theme __ ‘Ummah Maju Makmur’, reflecting Sarawak Premier’s aspiration for a united, progressive and prosperous Muslim community.

The event officially began at 9:00 am with the arrival of the Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, who were warmly welcomed by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, representing the Premier of Sarawak.

The ceremony began with a band performance of ‘Ibu Pertiwiku’, followed by a nasyid presentation and the recitation of the Holy Qur’an.

Maal Hijrah marks the start of the Islamic New Year, commemorating the Prophet Muhammad’s migration from Makkah to Madinah and symbolising a fresh start, unity and a life guided by faith.

Each year, Majlis Islam Sarawak (MIS) presents the Maal Hijrah Awards to honour individuals and groups who have made outstanding contributions in various fields.

Award categories include Organisational Leadership, Youth Leadership, Non-Muslim Civil Servant, Volunteerism, and several others.

Adding to the significance of this year’s event was the celebration of the 70th anniversary of MIS, highlighting seven decades of contributions to Islamic development and community guidance in the state.
