KUCHING: Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd reiterates that it is fully committed towards minimising disruptions to utility services, especially now that the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) Project is already at its peak construction phase.
In its press release, Sarawak Metro also acknowledges that several unforeseen incidents, where construction activities are being done, have affected utility services for communities along the alignment.
The latest incidents were recently highlighted by Kuching Water Board (KWB), where its underground pipelines were accidently damaged due to the KUTS Project’s construction activities.
“The damage had disrupted water supply to communities along sections of Jalan Datuk Mohammad Musa in Kota Samarahan and Jalan Wan Alwi in Kuching, respectively.
“We sincerely apologises to all the affected communities for the inconvenience caused by these recent water supply disruptions,” it said.
During these recent incidents, Sarawak Metro, together with the contractors involved, worked closely with KWB to carry out immediate repairs and restored services as swiftly as possible.
“We also acknowledge the concerns raised by KWB, and as such is currently reviewing and strengthening operational protocols to improve the coordination between contractors, enhance on-site supervision and prevent recurrence of similar incidents moving forward,” Sarawak Metro added.
Apart from that, Sarawak Metro also continues to engage with the relevant utility providers as well as with their respective contractors, especially before any excavation activities are done near charted underground pipes and cables.
“As such, we greatly appreciate the close cooperation given by all the relevant government agencies and utility providers in ensuring the KUTS Project is implemented as smoothly as possible.
“We’re also grateful for the support and understanding from the public, in its efforts to develop the future green public transport system for Greater Kuching,” it stated.
