KUCHING: Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd has formalised its collaboration with DOM EEB Joint Venture International Sdn Bhd (DOM-EEB JV) to implement its Socio-Economic Enhancement Development (SEED) Programme.

Sarawak Metro in a statement said that the first tier agreement, signed today, is part of the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) Project’s System Package 2, which was awarded to DOM-EEB JV.

Sarawak Metro Chief Executive Officer, Mazli Mustaffa, and DOM-EEB JV Director, Vincent Ng, signed the agreement, witnessed by Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) Chairman, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr Abdul Aziz Hussain, who also chairs Sarawak Metro.

Mazli said the agreement supports Sarawak Metro’s goal of building not just a sustainable public transport system, but also a competent local supply chain and workforce.

“Our task is not merely to provide a modern, reliable and sustainable public transport by developing and maintaining the KUTS project, but also develop the local supply chain and create employment opportunities, with our collaborations through the SEED Programme.

“As such, while we take pride in introducing this endeavour in our KUTS project, we require mutual commitment and trust from all our partners to achieve the goals and objectives that we have set,” he was quoted as saying.

DOM Industries Sdn Bhd Director, Noorfazliyani Mustafa Kamal, representing DOM-EEB JV, said the programme is a responsibility the company is fully committed to.

“At DEJV, we do not see our involvement in the SEED Programme as just a duty; we see it as a privilege and we are fully committed to ensuring that our contributions leave a lasting, positive impact,” she said.

Through the SEED Programme, DOM-EEB JV will support localisation efforts, technology transfer, and workforce development, particularly targeting industrial competency among the blue-collar workforce.

These initiatives are aligned with the deployment of technologies for Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) and hydrogen systems under the contract.

System Package 2 covers the design and installation of several core systems, including telecommunications, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), automatic fare collection (AFC), computerised maintenance management systems (CMMS), operation control centre (OCC), and information technology system (ITS) required for the ART operations.

The SEED Programme is Sarawak Metro’s initiative to maximise procurement value from the KUTS project, modelled after the national-level Industrial Collaboration Programme (ICP) for strategic developments.
