KUCHING: Sarawak is a prime example of how local communities can use technology to create new opportunities and bring local stories to the global stage.

Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) Chairman, Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh, said Sarawak’s digital progress reflects the increasing potential in creative technology and community-driven innovation.

He stated that MDEC is planning to create an inclusive digital ecosystem throughout all of Malaysia, with Sarawak playing a key role in content creation, animation and digital games.

“Sarawak is not just rich in culture and heritage, but also in creativity and digital innovation.

“This is why we are focusing on the development of the digital creative cluster through ‘Jelajah Malaysia Digital’ (JMD), specifically in storytelling, animation and gaming.

“We would like to see more local businesses and talents come aboard the digital bandwagon and share their story with the world,” he added.

He said this during the ‘Jelajah Malaysia Digital’ programme at Tegas Digital Village here today.

MDEC is also collaborating with the Sarawak Government in implementing a photogrammetry programme to create digital assets in relation to Sarawak’s uniqueness.

The project facilitates the creation of AR/VR content, virtual tourism, and the wider creative sector.

“We think this programme will place Sarawak at the forefront of digital asset development for the creative and technology industries.

“Beyond technology, MDEC is also driving digital inclusion with efforts like ‘Jelajah Saya Digital’ (JSD), having reached over 7,000 Sarawakians since 2020.

“Sarawak has all that it takes to be a success in the digital and creative economy as a global player,” he added.
