Sarawak Motorsports Festival returns after two-year hiatus

KUCHING: After a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19, this year’s Sarawak Motorsport Festival (SMF) will be held this weekend (Sept 17-18).

At least 200 participants are expected to take part in the event.

This will be held on 17 to Sept 18 at Petra Jaya motorsport training circuit, Stadium Sarawak.

“We are pleased to facilitate this kind of events to be held in Kuching,” said Kuching City North Datuk Junaidi Reduan during the press conference at Mayor’s office, level 4, DBKU building yesterday.

“But most important thing to highlight here is to make sure the facility at the event is safe to be used by the participants and the audience.

“We also have to ensure the cleanliness of the city after activities like these where the cleanliness of the city is our responsibility,” he added.

Meanwhile, Petra Jaya Motorsport Club secretary Sylvester Reggie said the event is a platform for youths and young adults to showcase their talent, passion, and hobbies.

“We can also foster the exchange of knowledge; we believe it will contribute to higher standards of the automotive scene in Sarawak.

Separately, SMF chairman Andy Chong said the two-day event will feature various activities such as automotive show, audio show, training track open day, Go-kart and bike show, drift, gymkhana, and time attack show.

“There will also be a photo and videography contest,” he said, adding that he expects around 3,000 people will attend the event.

Entrance fee is RM10.00 per person while for kids aged below 12, admission is.
