KUCHING: Sarawak MPs showed that distance was no barrier to celebrating the state’s 62nd independence anniversary as they came together in unity during a brief but meaningful gathering in Kuala Lumpur.
Despite being in the middle of the Dewan Rakyat sitting, the MPs made time to mark Sarawak Day with a group photo that radiated pride, love, and solidarity for their home state.
The photo was shared by Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri on her Facebook page.
“Celebrating Sarawak’s 62nd Anniversary even while in Parliament today.
“This is our culture — sharing the love for our beloved Sarawak and preserving unity among all races. Sarawak Maju Makmur, Segulai Sejalai!” she wrote in the post.
Nancy, who is the Santubong MP, was joined by fellow Sarawakian leaders including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof (Petra Jaya), and Minister of Works Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi (Kapit), whose presence added a dignified tone to the occasion.
Also taking part in the celebration were Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii (Sarikei), Deputy Minister of Economy Datuk Hanifah Taib (Mukah), and Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Rubiah Wang (Kota Samarahan).
Other MPs present included Datuk Seri Doris Sophia Brodie (Sri Aman), Rodiyah Sapiee (Batang Sadong), Ahmad Johnie Zawawi (Igan), Yusuf Abd Wahab (Tanjong Manis), Mohamad Sahfizan Kepli (Batang Lupar), Roy Angau Gingkoi (Lubok Antu), and Datuk Willie Mongin (Puncak Borneo).
Dewan Negara president Senator Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah was also among those who joined the gathering, reflecting the strong bond shared by Sarawakian lawmakers.
