A total of 4,446 telecommunications towers across Sarawak are now on-air, a 95 per cent completion rate out of the 4,662 planned structures.

Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi said the remaining 216 towers are expected to be operational in stages by the end of 2025.

“To date, internet service coverage has increased to 90.2 per cent compared to 84.8 per cent as reported during the previous State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting,” he said in his ministerial winding-up speech at the DUN sitting today.

Julaihi added a total of 585 or 94.6 per cent out of 618 Sarawak Multimedia Authority Rural Telecommunication (SMART) telecommunications towers have been completed, with 18 out of the 618 towers are repeaters.

“Of the completed towers, 480 or 82 per cent of the SMART towers are already operational, while the remainder will be fully operational in stages by the fourth quarter of 2025,” he said.

“As for the implementation of 5G, to date, 574 out of a total of 576 5G sites are already operational, with the remaining sites expected to be operational by the second quarter of 2025,” he said.

On the MySRBN internet plan, he stated that a total of 31,000 households have enjoyed the MySRBN service compared to 24,000 households last year.

“My ministry, through the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC), will continue to implement community programmes throughout Sarawak to encourage subscription to this service,” he said.
