KUCHING: Sarawak is in need of people of various talents and expertise to further flourish its new economy.
In stating this, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that be it Sarawakians or people from the Peninsula, they are all welcome to aid in developing Sarawak.
“We need a lot of people because our economy is new and unconventional. What I said about hydrogen, carbon etc, they are all new and were not talked about or done by any other states or countries.
“That is why I am invited overseas to talk on the matter as it is something new that could tackle climate change using scientific and innovative methods,” he said.
He said this during a town hall session after his keynote address at the Sarawak Budget Discussion organised by Persatuan Mahasiswa Sarawak Universiti Malaya at Universiti Malaya (UM), Kuala Lumpur today.
Affirming that a developed Sarawak will also contribute to the development of Malaysia, Abang Johari pointed out that having only Sarawakians to develop the state is not something possible.
Taking the Autonomous Rail Rapid Transit (ART) for example, he said that it is headed by someone from Peninsular Malaysia and not a fellow Sarawakian because their expertise on the matter is needed.
“If we have Sarawakians who are experts on the matter, then the projects that we have can be headed by our people. As we do not have much expertise on certain matters, we need the help from the non Sarawakians.
“Having said that, I assure you that we are in need of people with expertise to make Sarawak prosperous,” he said.
