KUCHING: Sarawak’s para swimming squad remains on course for success at the Para SUKMA 2026 despite undergoing changes in its line-up.

Several senior swimmers have been dropped due to age restrictions on the Games, with younger athletes now stepping in as part of the team’s transition.

Head coach Syarbini Kedri said the changes will not significantly affect the squad’s overall strength.

“We still have a strong core of medal-winning swimmers. We also have young swimmers who show potential to make an impact,” he told Sarawak Tribune when met recently.

Preparations are continuing as scheduled, with swimmers maintaining consistent training across Kuching, Sibu and Miri.

“Swimmers are focusing on their daily training according to the set schedule,” he added.

The squad is also looking at competing in several circuits in Kuala Lumpur in the near future to further assess performance.

“We will look at the need to send swimmers to compete in the circuits, and there is a strong possibility that new faces will be given the opportunity to prove themselves,” he said.

Syarbini (second right, seated) is confident that the current squad can make an impact.
