KUCHING: Sarawak continues to play a vital role in Malaysia’s resilience, bolstered by allocations from the Malaysia Madani Budget 2025, which earmarked RM5.9 billion for development in the region.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said these funds would support key projects in infrastructure, energy, and education, advancing Sarawak’s priorities while strengthening alignment with national objectives.
“The Malaysia Madani Budget 2025 announced by the federal government is geared towards enhancing national resilience through fiscal discipline, social equity, and environmental sustainability.
“It includes comprehensive support for regional states, including Sarawak, to bolster infrastructure, technology adoption, and green growth.
“This support is crucial in empowering us to align Sarawak’s budget priorities with national policies while addressing our distinct regional needs,” he said.
He said this when officiating at the 2025 Sarawak Budget Conference held at the Borneo Conference Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Tuesday (Dec 3).
Abang Johari noted that the global economic landscape remains uncertain, referencing the International Monetary Fund (IMF) projection of global economic growth slowing to 3.2 per cent in 2025, influenced by geopolitical tensions and climate challenges.
However, he pointed out that Malaysia’s economy remains resilient, with growth projected between 4.8 per cent and 5.3 per cent in 2024, driven by robust consumer spending supported by improved labour market conditions and higher disposable incomes.
“Key sectors such as services, mining, and agriculture have all demonstrated commendable growth, driven by strategic investments and innovative policies.
“Guided by the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), our investments in catalytic projects, such as the 50MW Batang Ai Floating Solar Farm and hydrogen initiatives, have positioned Sarawak as a leader in renewable energy and digital transformation,” he added.
Despite global challenges, he assured that Sarawak’s GDP growth is projected to exceed 5 per cent in 2025, driven by strategic investments in infrastructure and green technology.
“For the year 2025, Sarawak’s budget has been meticulously crafted with an unprecedented allocation of RM15.8 billion to ensure sustainable economic growth while prioritising key sectors that drive Sarawak’s prosperity,” he said.
