KOTA SAMARAHAN: Sarawak is actively positioning itself to lead in the digital era through strategic collaborations with global technology leaders and local institutions.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the official launch of the UNIMAS Digital Experience (DEX) Hub sends a clear message that the state is not merely keeping pace with rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and digital innovation, but taking a proactive leadership role.
Established in partnership with industry giants including Google, AI Singapore, Sarawak AI Centre, Insights Analytics, and EY Consulting, the DEX Hub is designed to accelerate digital readiness, expand talent pipelines and drive research across the region.
“By launching this trailblazing hub, we are sending a clear message: Sarawak is actively positioning itself to lead the digital era,” Uggah said at the launching ceremony held at PeTARY today (Aug 5).
He noted that the hub directly supports the fifth pillar of the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2030 (SDE 2030) by building digital competency, upgrading infrastructure and fostering high-tech innovation.
Through this collaborative ecosystem, researchers, civil servants and local industries can leverage emerging technologies such as Big Data Analytics and the Internet of Things (IoT) to solve localised challenges in smart agriculture, new energy, carbon tracking and construction engineering.
Uggah stressed that as digital adoption expands, upholding the newly launched Sarawak Data Governance Framework (SDGF) is critical to establishing a secure, ethical and interoperable data ecosystem.
Speaking to reporters after the event, Uggah also advised the public to exercise caution and cross-check AI-generated content before accepting or sharing it as truth, as AI tools become increasingly prevalent.
He emphasised that while AI technology offers immense benefits in boosting productivity and accelerating research, users must remain vigilant against false or manipulated digital content.
“Be cautious and always be alert to any possible false information. Question what you see and read before coming to any conclusion – do the research and verify the information first,” he said.
He praised UNIMAS for establishing Malaysia’s first DEX Hub, encouraging students, civil servants and the general public to continually upskill to meet future workforce demands under the state’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).
