KUALA LUMPUR: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg accompanied the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, to a gala dinner held in conjunction with the opening of the 46th National PERKIM Women’s Annual General Meeting on Saturday (April 25).

The event, held at the Glass House, Boathouse By The Lake, highlighted the role of National PERKIM Women as an important platform in empowering Muslim women through dakwah, education and welfare initiatives.

Abang Johari, who is also president of PERKIM, also witnessed the official launch gimmick officiated by the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor together with the National PERKIM Women chief, Tunku Puan Sri Datuk Noor Hayati Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj.

Accompanying the Premier to the event was Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, Kuching North City Hall and Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.

The event also featured the presentation of mock cheques from contributors to PERKIM Women Selangor as well as donations for the Institut Dakwah Islam PERKIM in Kelantan.

Established in 1974, National PERKIM Women continues to play a role in guiding female converts, strengthening family institutions and channeling assistance to those in need, including mualaf.

The event was further enlivened with cultural performances, a video presentation sharing stories of female converts, and a closing performance before the departure of the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor.
