KUCHING: Eight Sarawak-based production companies have received Creative Content Fund (DKK) grants under the Sarawak TV Programme (Borneo) category amounting to more than RM1.5 million.
Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching said each recipient is required to utilise the funding within a year to produce a 90-minute telemovie or telefilm to be aired on Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) or private TV stations.
“All eight companies will produce high-quality super telefilms either in the national language or local ethnic languages,” she told reporters after presenting the letters of offer during a ceremony at the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) Sarawak branch today.
Teo said the programme aims to enrich local broadcasting content and strengthen strategic collaboration between industry players and broadcasters such as RTM and private media, while promoting cultural heritage and local identity.
She added that the ministry also approved RM421,000 in Post-Production Fund allocations for three recipients, along with RM139,943.94 for one recipient under the Marketing and Exhibition Fund (DP2).
Teo further noted that Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil had presented DKK worth RM1.3 million to seven recipients from Sabah on July 22.
The ceremony reaffirmed the government’s commitment through the Ministry of Communications and FINAS in supporting the growth of Malaysia’s creative content industry and advancing the country’s aspiration to become a regional content hub.
After the presentation, Teo was taken on a tour of the FINAS Sarawak facilities.
