JAKARTA: The proposed energy link between Sarawak and Singapore was one of the key topics discussed during the 13th Malaysia-Indonesia Annual Consultation held here.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the proposal is currently under consideration by the top leadership, particularly in terms of enhancing regional cooperation in the field of sustainable energy, pushing Sarawak’s aspiration in becoming a leader in green energy within the ASEAN region.

“I hope a decision will be made to establish an energy connection between Sarawak and Singapore,” he said in a news report by TVS.

Abang Johari added that the proposed energy link would not only reinforce Sarawak’s position as a renewable energy hub but also contribute to a more sustainable regional energy ecosystem.

He said Sarawak was actively implementing new energy development initiatives through strategic investments in the Kalimantan region, in line with the state’s commitment to strengthening the sustainable energy sector at the regional level.

Earlier, Abang Johari accompanied Anwar on a series of working visits at the Istana Merdeka here for a special meeting with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.

The working visit continued with a stop at the ASEAN Secretariat, where Anwar delivered a keynote address in conjunction with Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025.
