SELANGOR: Sarawak refused to let a slow start define its campaign, fighting back from a regu down to defeat hosts Selangor 2–1 and secure the women’s team sepak takraw bronze at SUKMA Selangor 2026 on Tuesday (Aug 18).
After dropping the opening regu, Sarawak responded with a composed display in the second before sealing victory in the deciding regu to clinch a place on the podium.
Sarawak assistant chef de mission for sepak takraw Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat praised the players and coaching staff for their resilience under pressure.
“The deciding regu was quite tense. We led 14-5 before Selangor closed the gap to 14-9, which was worrying, but thankfully we managed to finish it 15-9,” he said.
Ripin also congratulated the athletes, coaches and team management for their commitment throughout the tournament, while thanking supporters for standing behind the squad.
Sabah successfully defended the gold medal after defeating Perak in the final.
