KUCHING: Sarawak is prepared to increase its electricity supply capacity to Sabah by up to 80 megawatts (MW), subject to the capacity of the grid system in the state.

Minister for Utility and Telecommunications, Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi said that initially, Sarawak had agreed to supply 30 MW of electricity to Sabah, and this amount could be increased based on current needs.

“Originally, we agreed to supply 30 MW to Sabah, subject to the completion of the grid in the northern part of Sarawak, and once completed, we can supply 30 MW or potentially increase it to 50 MW.

“And certainly, if more is needed, we may consider increasing it to 80 MW, depending on the capacity of Sabah’s grid,” he told reporters after attending the Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS) 2025 Aidilfitri gathering at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), Kota Kinabalu today (April 22).

Julaihi added that the construction of the Northern Sarawak Grid project is now almost fully completed.

“Based on the latest progress, it is in its final stages of completion, and our target is by the end of this year.”
