Business Events Sarawak has supported 20 business events as of April 2026, generating RM37.2 million in total economic impact across multiple sectors throughout the state.

Major gatherings included the Asia Pacific Aerospace Conference and Exhibition 2026, International Conference on Biomass, Biofuels and Green Transitions 2026 and International Conference of Sustainable Smart Cities 2026.

Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the conferences strengthened Sarawak’s international reputation while supporting tourism growth, investment opportunities, knowledge exchange, and long-term economic development aligned with the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 objectives statewide.

“Business Events Sarawak secured 53 business events scheduled through 2028, expected to attract more than 25,000 delegates and generate RM205.1 million in total economic impact for Sarawak’s economy.

“Among the confirmed gatherings were the 11th International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease Asia Pacific Regional Conference 2028, attracting 1,000 delegates from various countries across the region,” he said.

He said this in his ministerial winding up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today (May19).

He said authorities reported that 53 percent of delegates extended their visits for leisure activities, contributing additional spending to accommodation, food services, transportation providers, and tourism-related businesses throughout Sarawak.

He added from 2024 until 2025, authorities identified 60 business events for legacy impact assessments, with 10 validated case studies demonstrating sustainable long-term benefits involving industry development and community wellbeing.

“Business Events Sarawak also intensified international promotional activities, generating RM6.5 million in earned media value while preparing sustainable event management training programmes for 50 local industry representatives,” he said.
