KUCHING: The Sarawak Government continues to reinforce interfaith harmony through sustained assistance for non-Muslim places of worship, with the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church in Batu Kawa receiving a RM200,000 allocation from the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR).
The mock cheque was presented by Batu Kitang assemblyman Datuk Lo Khere Chiang during a simple ceremony at the church last Saturday (Dec 27), witnessed by members of the congregation.
The allocation will be used to improve the church’s facilities and operations, creating a more conducive environment for worship while supporting community-based activities that encourage interaction, understanding and participation among church members.
Lo pointed out that the allocation reflects the state government’s inclusive development approach, which places equal importance on the wellbeing of all religious communities regardless of background or belief.
He added that support extended through UNIFOR goes beyond financial assistance, representing a practical commitment to mutual respect and shared responsibility in strengthening social cohesion.
“Religious institutions play an important role beyond spiritual guidance, often serving as centres for community engagement, moral development and social support.
“Enhancing their facilities and programmes contributes directly to building a more caring, united and resilient society,” he said.
Lo stated that continued collaboration between the government and religious institutions is important as it is a key pillar of Sarawak’s harmonious multi-religious landscape.
