KAPIT: A series of major infrastructure projects are in the pipeline to enhance road connectivity and spur development across Sarawak, particularly in Kapit, Miri, Serian and Kuching.
These initiatives were outlined by Minister of Works and Kapit Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, in his Facebook post yesterday following a coordination meeting here with representatives from the Public Works Department (PWD) Sarawak and PWD Malaysia, held as part of his Program Turun Padang (Ground Engagement Programme).
Among the key projects that he stated under PWD Sarawak is the upgrading of Federal Road 21 (FR21) from Serian to the Tebedu-Indonesia border, currently in the early works and design phase with a project cost of RM13 million.
Another project in Miri, allocated RM2.28 million, involves preliminary works to upgrade the Pujut 3 Roundabout (Bulatan GK) into a traffic light intersection, along with improvements to the road stretch from the Puchong-Sungai Lorong roundabout to the Saberkas/Pujut 7 roundabout.
In Kapit, early works are underway for the construction of a new road and bridge linking Nanga Belawai to the Song-Kapit Road, with an estimated cost of RM10 million.

Another local project includes the construction of a bypass road connecting the Kapit Division State Government Complex (Bleteh) to Jalan Airport, Kapit, with a budget of over RM3.6 million.
A project in Kuching, also under PWD Sarawak, involves preliminary works for a flyover and road upgrades along the Kuching-Serian Road (Batu 8), which includes design and land acquisition phases, estimated at RM40 million.
Meanwhile, under PWD Malaysia, a major project was discussed involving the construction of a new bridge and road from Nanga Belawai to the Song-Kapit Road, with a substantial allocation of RM321.5 million.
“I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the team from the Ministry of Works, led by Deputy Secretary-General (Policy and Development), Datuk Mohd Sakeri Abdul Kadir, along with the PWD Malaysia and Sarawak teams for their presence and the valuable input shared during the meeting,” Nanta said.
