KUCHING: The Sarawak rugby fraternity has rallied behind six local talents who have earned opportunities to compete on the national stage in the Agong’s Cup 2026.
Sarawak Rugby Union (SRU) extended its congratulations and best wishes to the players who will represent the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), Kuala Lumpur Rugby, and Johor Rugby Union in this year’s prestigious competition, which began on May 9 and will run until June 28.
The 42nd edition of the Agong’s Cup features nine teams from across the country, namely Kedah, Terengganu, Kelantan, ATM, PDRM, Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur, with the eight-week tournament expected to deliver intense competition and exciting action.
Leading the Sarawakian contingent with ATM are props, Mohamad Shahamirnizam Dan and Mohammad Al-Hafiz Ahmad Riduan, alongside flanker Dillter Rodgers and flyhalf Shahrul Mohaini.
SRU described the quartet’s selection as a testament to their hard work, commitment and dedication, adding that their achievements continue to inspire the next generation of rugby talents from the state.
“Continue to carry the Sarawak spirit with pride and make your mark on the national stage,” the union said on its social media platforms recently.

Meanwhile, explosive backline player, Muzzammil Azfar, has been named in Kuala Lumpur Rugby’s squad for the campaign.
Known for his pace, footwork and versatility in both the wing and centre positions, Muzzammil’s inclusion further highlights the growing reputation of Sarawak players at the national level.
“Your Sarawak rugby family will always be behind you. Go out there, make your mark and fly the Sarawak flag proudly,” SRU added.
Another player embarking on a new chapter is Samuel Rentap Meran, who will suit up for Johor Rugby Union in this season’s Agong’s Cup.
The hardworking flanker has earned praise for his physicality, determination and fearless approach on the field, qualities SRU said reflect the identity and fighting spirit of Sarawak rugby.
SRU also encouraged all the players to continue pushing boundaries and inspiring the younger generation of rugby players back home.
The Agong’s Cup remains one of Malaysia’s premier domestic rugby competitions, featuring top talents from across the country representing state unions and institutional teams.
