KUCHING: The Sarawak DanceSport Association (SDA) is strengthening regional ties and athlete development with a three-day Latin Training Camp featuring top Korean coach Nam Gi Yong.

The Sarawak DanceSport Association (SDA) Latin Training Camp Workshop 2025, jointly endorsed and supported by the Sarawak DanceSport Association (SDA), Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC), and the Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS) and organised by Russell, Randell & Cindy Dance Company (RRCDC), will be held from Dec 5 to 7.

Asian Indoor Games double-gold medallists Nam Gi Yong and Shin Nara showcase their Latin expertise ahead of conducting classes at the SDA Latin Training Camp in Kuching.

A total of 23 DanceSport potentials, namely 20 from Sarawak and 3 from Sabah, will participate in the camp.

“Nam, together with partner Shin Nara, were double Gold Medallists at the 2013 and 2017 Asian Indoor Games. The pair were active and highly successful on the WDSF Championship circuit for more than a decade.

“Nam now focuses on shows, showcase performances, and coaching,” SDA said in a statement.

SDA president Chester Lim said the training camp is part of SDA’s ongoing athlete development programme aimed at elevating the standard of emerging and dedicated DanceSport talents.

He added that the participation of athletes from Sabah reflects the strong cooperation and goodwill shared between Sabah and Sarawak.

Chester expressed appreciation to SSC and MSNS for their proactive and positive support, noting that such endorsement goes a long way toward encouraging the long-term development of Sarawak DanceSport and advancing Sarawak’s vision of becoming Malaysia’s leading sports state.

In 2025, Sarawak’s dancers demonstrated strong competitive capabilities at international events in France, Vietnam, Johor, Sabah and Sarawak, earning notable achievements and podium finishes.

“The training camp, Chester added, is timely and essential in preparing Sarawak’s DanceSport athletes for the 2026 competition calendar,” the statement added.
