KUCHING: The Sarawak Scout Eco-Run is envisioned to expand beyond Sarawak and become a recognised event at both national and international levels.

Kuching City Scout Council adviser Peter Chai Mui Seng said he was pleased with the overwhelming success of the Eco-Run held on June 21, which attracted more than 1,600 participants.

He expressed confidence that with the commitment and strong support of young volunteers, future editions of the event would grow bigger and create greater impact.

Chai also expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the Run Director Lee Kong Shin for his outstanding leadership in planning and organising the event, which he described as a resounding success.

He also commended the organising committee and volunteers for their commitment in ensuring the smooth running of the programme.

“The success of the Eco-Run reflected the teamwork and dedication of everyone involved,” he said in his speech during the appreciation dinner hosted by the Kuching City Scout Council at the Scout Headquarters here on Friday night (June 26) to recognise the organising committee and volunteers behind the successful staging of the run, which was attended by more than 70 volunteers.

Looking ahead, he emphasised the importance of preparing the next generation of Scout leaders, saying that the current senior leadership would soon need younger members to take over the responsibility of leading the movement.

He encouraged young volunteers to step forward, commit themselves to serving the Scout Movement, and be willing to work hard for its continued growth.

He also urged them to be more proactive in every activity they undertake within Scouting.

Also present were Sarawak Scout Foundation chairman  Arthur Lee Cheng Chuan, Deputy Chief Scout Commissioner Lu Cho Heng, Executive Secretary of the Scout Association of Malaysia Sarawak Branch Zasran Abdullah, Secretary of the Kuching City scout council Charles Yeo and the Commissioners.
