KUCHING: The Sarawak Scout Council held its 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) today, celebrating a year of progress, recognising achievements, and outlining plans for the future of Scouting in Sarawak.

Council President, Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom, highlighted the year’s steady accomplishments, noting that scouting activities were implemented “regularly and consistently”, with local newspapers featuring Scout events nearly every month.

He attributed these successes to the dedication and teamwork of Council Members, Commissioners, and Scouters.

“This spirit of esprit de corps must continue to be the cornerstone of our Scout Movement in Sarawak,” Mawan said, emphasising that close cooperation and open communication are essential for sustaining progress.

The AGM served as a platform for members to discuss challenges, share ideas, and make decisions to strengthen the movement.

Mawan also congratulated Council Members, Commissioners, and Scouters who received Sarawak Government Awards and various Scout honours throughout the year, encouraging them to continue their exemplary service.

A key focus of the meeting was the Community-Based Scouting (CBS) initiative, first launched in Serian last year and recently highlighted by the National Chief Scout in Malacca.

Mawan called on leaders to prioritise the establishment of new CBS troops in 2026 to expand the programme across Sarawak.

Preparations are also underway for a major scouting event in Bintulu in January 2026, led by Vice-President, Jumaat Ibrahim, with support from the Chief Commissioner, and expected to be attended by the Chief Scout of Sarawak.

The AGM also provided an opportunity for the Council and uniformed sections to present their annual programmes and activities for the 2025-2027 term.

The meeting concluded with the launch of the Sarawak Scout Eco-Run 5.0, scheduled to take place in June 2026.

Mawan urged all members to use the AGM as a platform to refine ideas and chart strategies for a strong, relevant and impactful Scouting movement that will benefit generations to come.
