SARIKEI: Sarawak will unveil another artificial intelligence (AI)-based device in the United Kingdom (UK) next month, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He said this marks a significant step in its vision to become a creator of digital technology rather than just a consumer.
The launch, he said, reflects Sarawak’s commitment to advancing its digital economy and positioning itself as a regional leader in innovation.
“Next month, I will be launching another AI-based device in the UK as a manifestation of Sarawak’s vision to be a technology creator that adds value to our resources,” he said in his address at the state-level National Day 2025 celebration held here today.
The event was graced by Head of State Tun Pehin Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.
Also present were Deputy Premiers, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
Abang Johari said that Sarawak had already made history with the creation of KETEQ AI, the world’s first edge AI-power converter prototype, developed by Sarawak Microelectronic Design (SMD) in collaboration with CSA Catapult UK.
The device, which was launched in Cardiff, Wales, in April, is now awaiting international intellectual property (IP) registration before being commercialised with industry partners.
Abang Johari said KETEQ AI was “only the beginning”, with more AI-driven innovations currently in development.
To support this ecosystem, he said the state has also set up the Sarawak Artificial Intelligence Centre (SAIC), which will function as a hub for research, training and innovation.
“The centre aims to nurture highly skilled talent, foster research and development, and provide a platform for local start-ups and entrepreneurs to produce globally competitive digital solutions.
“These initiatives are aligned with our Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), which aspires to position Sarawak not only as a user but also as a creator of technology, and a leader in the regional digital economy,” he added.
