KUCHING: The Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) has set a new record in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) for the ‘Most Percussionists in a Music Festival,’ with 2,763 participants present throughout the three-day Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) 2023.
Christopher Wong, the chief operating officer (COO) of the Malaysia Book of Records, praised the STB for its tremendous job and expressed his hope that more records would be broken at upcoming music festivals.
Wong emphasised that RWMF 2023 not only promotes the festival worldwide but also introduces Sarawak’s culture to a national and international audience.
“The Rainforest World Music Festival 2023 is highly relevant and we hope this record will perpetuate the success of this music festival for years to come. We hope that the STB will continue to promote this event as a platform to showcase Malaysia, specifically Sarawak, to the rest of the world and bring this music festival to the international stage,” he said, while meeting reporters after declaring the Malaysia Books of Records at Sarawak Cultural Village, Santubong on Sunday (June 25).
Wong also stated that Sarawak has successfully recorded at least 50 to 60 records in the Malaysia Books of Records during the past eight years of his tenure since 2015.
“My team and I have been here at least ten times a year, so there have been roughly 50 to 60 records in the past eight years. Many records have been achieved by Sarawakians, and we certainly hope that more records will be broken by the people of Sarawak,” he said
Moreover, he highlighted that this is the first time the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) 2023 has achieved this record.
The event was attended by the Minister of Women, Family, and Community Development, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) chief executive officer (CEO) Sharzede Datuk Salleh Askor, and Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) chairman Dennis Ngau.
