DUBAI: Sarawak’s pride soared on the international stage as para badminton athlete Nurzammietul Syafiqqah Mohamad Zamberi clinched a bronze medal in the mixed doubles at the 6th Fazza Para Badminton International Dubai 2025.
Representing Malaysia, Syafiqqah’s remarkable performance helped boost the national team’s medal haul to an impressive tally of 3 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze medals.
Their performance is a shining testament to the grit, talent and determination of Malaysia’s para athletes.
Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah hailed the achievement, calling it “a proud moment for Sarawak and a clear sign of the state’s growing prominence in the para sports arena.”
“We are proud of both our Sarawak para badminton warriors, Nur Syafiqqah and Ashley Irenaeus, as well as the entire national para badminton team.
“Their outstanding performance in Dubai reflects years of unwavering commitment, relentless training and the unbreakable spirit of our Malaysian para athletes,” she said in a statement today.
The tournament, held from May 9 to 11 at the Shahab Al Ahli Club in Dubai, was hosted by the Dubai Club for People of Determination.
It brought together 14 Malaysian para shuttlers and elite athletes from around the globe in a powerful celebration of athleticism, inclusivity and perseverance.
Fatimah reaffirmed Sarawak’s commitment to empower athletes with disabilities through targeted training and development programmes.
“Sarawak will continue to support, empower and uplift our champions, both present and future,” she added.
