KUCHING: The Sarawak Shoe Artisan Exhibition reflects the Centre for Technological Excellence Sarawak’s (CENTEXS) commitment to skills development, talent empowerment, and the nurturing of both creative and technical fields.
Sarawak National Youth Organisation (SABERKAS) Women Bureau Adviser, Datuk Angelina Celestine Ujang, said the exhibition marked a meaningful showcase of creativity, innovation and emerging local talents, particularly from CENTEXS’ Shoemaking Artisanry Programme.
Before CENTEXS introduced the course, she noted that there was no structured and professional training model for shoemaking in the state.
“Today, we can proudly say that CENTEXS has laid the foundation for a new creative and technical sector – one that blends craftsmanship, design, entrepreneurship and innovation,” she said.
She made these remarks during the official launching of the Sarawak Shoe Artisan Exhibition at The Spring Shopping Mall here today.
Angelina said the exhibition highlighted the rise of homegrown talent capable of producing high-quality, world-class artisanal products.
She also said Sarawak has an abundance of talent and emphasised the importance of nurturing platforms such as this exhibition to further elevate creative practitioners and position the state on both national and international stages.
“When we see a pair of shoes crafted by our young artisans, we are not simply looking at a product. We are witnessing the confidence, skills, aspirations and creativity of our own people.
“It is a mark of quality and education as well as a reminder that world-class creativity can come from right here in Sarawak,” she said.
To the artisans involved, Angelina expressed admiration for their discipline, originality and creativity.
“I would like to congratulate all the artisans, as their designs and craftsmanship are truly remarkable. Your work demonstrates the passion and hard work required to transform a new industry into a promising career pathway.
“May this exhibition inspire you to push boundaries, explore new ideas and aim for even greater achievements,” she said.
For the record, the exhibition, which runs from December 5 to 7, is supported by SABERKAS and features works by students and alumni of the Certificate in Shoemaking Artisanry Programme.
