Sarawak silat team strike gold at ‘Semangat Jebat’ tournament

KUCHING: The Sarawak silat team achieved remarkable success at the 2025 National Open ‘Semangat Jebat’ Young Warriors Silat Championship, bringing home an impressive haul of gold, silver, and bronze medals.

The tournament was held from May 15 to 18 at the Tapah Sports Complex, Perak.

A total of 18 young athletes participated, accompanied by coach Arif Abu Bakar, assistant coach Nurul Amrah Rudy Iswandy, manager Nazri Aboi, and Dayangku Siti Mariam as the chairperson of Silat Helang Putih Perkasa (SHPP) Sarikei Region under the Rumpun Silat Sarawak (RSS).

The tournament, organised by the Pertubuhan Seni Silat Lincah Malaysia (PSSLM) Perak, saw young silat practitioners from Sarawak shine in various categories.

Among the standout performers was Muhammad Fairuz Ikmal Abdullah, who not only won gold in the Male Youth Category E, but was also honoured as the Best Male Youth Silat Practitioner of the tournament.

Others included Rabiatul Adawiyah Ismail, who clinched the gold medal in the Female Youth Under 39kg category, while Muhammad Afif Syafie Abbas Salimi delivered a strong performance and secured gold in the Male Pre-Youth Class E category.

Sarawak’s success continued with Nur Ariana Alya Rudy winning gold in the Female Pre-Youth Class H category.

Meanwhile, Nurul Shahfiqah Mohd Shahriza contributed a silver medal in the Female Youth Class A, followed by Safra Syahirah Saruji who earned a bronze medal in Female Youth Class D.

The championship featured teams from across Malaysia, including primary and secondary schools, registered clubs, as well as public and private higher education institutions.
