BINTULU: In the spirit of Gawai Dayak, Sarawak Skills and EPOMS Sdn Bhd (EPOMS) recently organised the ‘Keceriaan Hari Gawai Bersama Sarawak Skills dan EPOMS’ programme at Rumah Radin, Labang.
The initiative, part of both organisations’ corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts, aimed to support and engage the rural community by spreading festive cheer, providing practical assistance, and promoting cultural appreciation.
Gawai Dayak, a major festival that marks the end of the harvest season for the Dayak community in Sarawak, was celebrated through a programme that blended festivities with meaningful support for local residents.
“The initiative is grounded in the core values of corporate social responsibility — uplifting communities, fostering sustainable development, and preserving cultural heritage. We are committed to building stronger, more resilient communities, especially in rural areas,” said Hallman Sabri, Sarawak Skills executive director.
Throughout the day, Rumah Radin came alive with the festive spirit of Gawai, highlighted by the distribution of aid packages to selected families to ease their daily burdens and enable them to celebrate with greater comfort and joy.
EPOMS, led by its principal of Supply Chain Management (SCM) and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Omar Suhaimi, conducted a waste management and environmental conservation awareness session to educate and empower residents on sustainable living practices.
Children in the community took part in various fun and educational activities designed to spark creativity and encourage learning in an engaging environment.
The ‘Keceriaan Hari Gawai’ programme reflects the shared commitment of both organisations not only to celebrate culture and tradition, but also to strengthen ties between the corporate sector and rural communities.
