KUCHING: Sarawak Skills has launched its first-ever Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle (HFCV) Safety and Awareness Training Programme, a significant move in support of Sarawak’s green economy ambitions.

The inaugural training, held at the institution’s training facility, aims to equip participants with essential knowledge on hydrogen fuel cell vehicle technology, focusing particularly on safety standards and proper handling practices.

Executive director Hallman Sabri said the programme marks an important milestone in the state’s efforts to develop a skilled workforce for the hydrogen economy.

“Sarawak Skills is proud to be the only training centre in the state offering hydrogen-specific training.

“This not only aligns with the state’s aspirations for a green economy but also ensures our local talents are prepared for future opportunities,” he said.

He added that the programme follows a strategic partnership with training institutions in China, giving Sarawak Skills access to advanced hydrogen-related training modules and expertise.

“The collaboration is expected to elevate local training standards to meet international benchmarks,” he stated.

Sarawak is currently spearheading Malaysia’s green energy transition with various hydrogen initiatives, including the Hydrogen Bus Project and the development of the state’s first integrated hydrogen production plant and refueling station.

With the introduction of this training, Sarawak Skills is poised to play a key role in providing a pipeline of skilled workers to support these projects.

Participants were also given a hands-on demonstration with a hydrogen-powered vehicle, including an up-close look at its engine components.
