KUCHING: Sarawak Skills remains steadfast in its vision to become the “TVET Trendsetter” in Sarawak and Malaysia as a whole.

Sarawak Skills Chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain said this commitment is reflected in the institution’s impressive graduate employability rate of 93 per cent within six months after graduation.

“Sarawak Skills is indeed fortunate to receive strong support from both the state and federal governments, as well as from members of the industry. This collaboration has enabled us to produce graduates who contribute meaningfully to Sarawak’s development.

“The 93 percent employability rate within six months of graduation shows that Sarawak Skills is on the right track in producing a competent and competitive workforce.

“Of this percentage, 75 per cent of graduates are employed in fields related to their area of study – a positive indicator of the institution’s effectiveness and graduate development,” he said in his welcoming address at the 27th Sarawak Skills Convocation held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today.

His speech was delivered by Sarawak Skills Management Council’s Deputy Chairperson, Norazibah M. Rabu.

Abdul Aziz highlighted that since its establishment, Sarawak Skills has grown to include 85 members from both government and industry sectors across various fields.

The institution now operates nine branches across Sarawak, offering 13 skill-based programmes for school leavers, and has produced over 80,000 alumni to date.

A total of 631 graduates were honoured at the ceremony, comprising 477 recipients of the Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM), 122 recipients of the Malaysian Skills Diploma (DKM), and 32 graduates under the Recognition of Prior Achievement (PPT) programme.

This year, 25 graduates were honoured with Industry Awards, sponsored by 12 industry partners, including Petronas Sarawak, Bintulu Port Holdings, X-Fab Sarawak, Sarawak Information Systems (SAINS), and Yayasan Sarawak.

Two Human Capital Awards, under the Sarawak Skills Member and Strategic Partner categories, were also presented to industry players who have actively collaborated in skills development, community engagement, and industrial placement programmes.

Three special institutional awards were conferred: Sarawak Skills Chairman’s Award; Sarawak Skills TVET Award (Diploma category); and Sarawak Skills TVET Award (Certificate category).

A symbolic car key handover from Perodua also took place during the event, signifying the company’s contribution of training vehicles to enhance Sarawak Skills’ automotive and automation programmes.

“This partnership reflects Perodua’s strong commitment to nurturing industry-ready graduates and supporting technical education in Sarawak,” Abdul Aziz said.
