KUCHING: The forthcoming presentation of the Sarawak Social Welfare Index (SSWI) study to the Cabinet is imminent.

Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah revealed that the comprehensive study to gauge key performance indicators (KPIs) of the social welfare index was conducted last year.

“We are on the brink of presenting the Sarawak Social Welfare Index study conducted last year to the Cabinet.

“I am gratified by the findings of this study, indicating an improvement compared to 2019.”

Fatimah said this during a press conference following a visit from Jennifer Lim, the entrepreneur behind Convenience Store and the Dalat Foods Brand, at her office here on Friday (April 5).

She also noted that the uptick in the index signifies Sarawak’s positive trajectory in both economic and social aspects.

“I also observed that in 2019, the elderly population in Sarawak experienced a notable sense of wellbeing.

“We aspire for initiatives like the Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) to garner support from corporate and private entities to provide discounts to the elderly.”

Fatimah disclosed that currently, there are 500 cooperative vendor partners under KGC across Sarawak, extending discounts to cardholders.

Regarding Lim’s achievements with Convenience Store and the Dalat Foods Brand, she expressed immense pride in a Sarawakian from Dalat successfully establishing convenience stores at five airports in the state.

“She has set up convenience stores at Kuching International Airport, Miri, Sibu, Bintulu and Mukah, offering a diverse range of food items.

“In addition, she has effectively promoted Dalat’s local products such as Sago, Tebaloi, Keropok, and more. Her accomplishments originating from rural areas are truly commendable,” Fatimah praised.

She hoped that Lim’s success story would serve as inspiration to all, not only in terms of business achievements but also in the welfare assistance she extends to those in need.
