KUCHING: Sarawak and South Korea are moving to strengthen economic cooperation through the proposed Kuching-Guro Business Council to foster trade, investment and business collaboration.
Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, said the council would provide a formal platform connecting businesses from Kuching South and Guro District.
“I strongly support Mayor Wee talking about the Kuching-Guro Business Council, and I think this will be formalised to bring the business community to come together,” he said.
He said this while speaking during the launch of Guro Street, Jalan Padungan, here today (July 31).
Dr Sim said stronger business engagement could unlock opportunities in renewable energy, hydrogen and carbon capture sectors.
He added the proposed council would encourage entrepreneurs, investors and industries from both regions to explore partnerships while strengthening long-term economic cooperation and innovation.
Meanwhile, Kuching South Mayor, Datuk Wee Hong Seng, said the council would elevate the longstanding relationship between both cities beyond government exchanges into business collaboration.
He said the initiative would connect entrepreneurs, promote trade and investment, encourage innovation, and create wider commercial opportunities that benefit businesses in both cities.
Wee added future cooperation could expand into education, technology, tourism, the creative economy, smart city initiatives, and sustainable urban development for mutual prosperity.
He said the partnership between Kuching South and Guro District, established in 2013, continues to grow through mutual trust, commitment and shared aspirations for development.
Also present were Guro District Mayor, Jang Inhong; Guro District Council Chairman, Kim Chulsoo; MPKS Chairman, Abang Ismawi Abang Ali, and MBKS Deputy Mayor, Datuk Zaiedi Suhaili.
