KUCHING: Upgrading works at Sarawak Stadium have reached around seven per cent as preparations continue ahead of the Southeast Asia (SEA) Games 2027.

Minister of Youth and Sports Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari said the project is progressing according to the timeline set despite still being in its early stages.

“For Sarawak Stadium, the progress is around seven per cent at the moment.

“But, the overall preparations for the SEA Games are around 60 to 70 per cent, and everything is still following the timeline set”, he told a press conference at Stadium Perpaduan here today (Apr 28).

State Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the facilities are expected to be completed by May or June 2027 ahead of the regional Games.

“We are targeting for all upgrading works to be completed by May or June 2027 so that there will be enough time before the SEA Games begin,” he said.

Earlier, Taufiq visited Sarawak Stadium alongside Abdul Karim and Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Mordi Bimol.

Upgrading works at Sarawak Stadium began earlier this year as part of preparations for the 2027 SEA Games, with the project involving major improvements to the venue ahead of the regional event.
