KUCHING: Sarawak are stepping up preparations for the 22nd Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in Selangor this Aug through a coordination meeting involving sports associations and team officials.
The session was chaired by Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, and brought together sports associations, team managers, development officers and coaches.
The meeting forms part of the contingent’s routine build-up ahead of SUKMA, aimed at reviewing current preparations before the Games.
It also serves as a platform to identify potential challenges, address weaknesses and plan necessary actions, including athlete preparation and welfare.
Sarawak will head into the Games as defending champions, carrying the responsibility of maintaining their standing.
The 2026 SUKMA is scheduled to take place from August 15 to 24 across several venues in Selangor, featuring 37 sports and a total of 474 events.
Also present during the meeting was Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS) acting director and Sarawak Sports Corporation acting chief executive officer Khairul Nizam Morshidi.
