SIMANGGANG: The Sarawak Government, through the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD), continues to work closely with the Sarawak Education Department to support the holistic development of the education ecosystem in the region.

Its Minister, Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, said that although education falls under the Federal List, the Sarawak Government remains committed to enhancing the quality of education in the state.

“We collaborate closely with the Sarawak Education Department and other key stakeholders to support student learning, teacher development, and the overall education ecosystem,” he said when officiating the Generasi Madani Chinese Language Carnival Sarawak Level 2025 at Dewan Suarah Sri Aman, recently.

His speech was delivered by the Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Francis Harden Hollis.

He stressed that this includes initiatives such as upgrading school infrastructure and supporting the teaching of science and mathematics in English through the Sarawak Dual Language Programme (DLP).

“In addition, we provide digital tools such as Raspberry Pi computers and strengthen education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), as well as Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

“All of these efforts are in line with Sarawak’s long-term goals outlined in the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which sets a clear vision.

“That is, every individual in Sarawak should have access to quality education, regardless of where they live,” he said.

According to Roland, this is crucial to producing a knowledgeable, skilled and competitive human capital to drive Sarawak toward becoming a high-income, advanced region by 2030.

He continued to encourage Sarawakian youths to explore the fields of STEM and TVET.

“These fields are the key to the future. The world is changing rapidly, and Sarawak needs skilled talent to lead us into a digital and green economy.

“Therefore, by choosing STEM or TVET, you (students) are preparing yourselves to be part of the generation that will build a new Sarawak, a smart, sustainable state full of opportunities,” he said.
